- Congratulates Barrow, Gambian president-elect

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the conceding of defeat in the December 1 elections by the outgoing President of The Gambia, Alhaji Yahya Jammeh, as uncommon.
According to him, his action was crucial in calming fears of unrest in the West African nation.
Buhari in a congratulatory message to the President-elect of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, on his victory in the country’s presidential election, expressed delight at the gallantry shown by President Jammeh, and enjoined Barrow to be magnanimous in victory.
The Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, in a statement said, President Buhari also commended the Gambians for peacefully exercising their democratic right to freely choose their leader and called on all stakeholders to maintain the peace.
He said he looks forward to a smooth transition of power and working with the incoming President of The Gambia to deepen existing cordial relations between both countries.
