Iyiola Omisore hits diamond age

IYIO;A

In the career of a politician, there is rarely time for leisure. Even on their birthdays, some of them allow the day to go like any other but this does not apply to a landmark age like turning 60. The same applies to one of Nigeria’s astute politicians, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who on Friday September 15, joined the league of sexagenarians in Nigeria. On that day, many of his friends and admirers took to the social media to celebrate him and he, in turn, hosted a few friends and associates to a low-key birthday soiree at his palatial mansion in Ile-Ife. But what made the day stand out was Omisore’s unique celebration with some certain ‘VIP guests’ –the physically challenged, beggars and widows.

Earlier in the day, Omisore made available food and drink for his ‘VIP guests’ and of course, there were photo ops where some of the ‘guests’ were captured eating with the celebrant, from the same plate. Did you say that humility wasn’t altruistic? Well, Omisore, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State and a two-term senator representing Osun East senatorial district has a burning ambition to govern the state of Osun. He had taken a shot at the seat thrice but came close to achieving his dream in 2014. Just as the race for who succeeds the incumbent governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola in 2018 inches nearer, Omisore is said to be wetting the ground to once again give the race a trial, and the sexagenarian engineer cum politician is set to give his all to get it right, this time.
