Immediate past Edo State Commissioner for Education and aspirant for Oredo House of Representatives, Dr. Paddy Emmanuel Iyamu, has secured a state-of-the-art Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Centre for Oredo Federal Constituency through a strategic alliance with the Senator Daisy T.Y Danjuma Foundation.
The groundbreaking for the construction of the Centre, expected to boost education in Oredo, is scheduled for the end of May.
The project is expected to expand access to digital learning and examination infrastructure for students, job seekers and youths across the constituency, while easing the burden faced by candidates, who travel long distances to access accredited CBT facilities for examinations.
Iyamu, in a statement yesterday, explained that the initiative was part of effort to support Senator Monday Okpebholo’s drive to better Edo and his commitment to bridging the technology and education gap at the grassroots and ensuring that young people in Oredo are not left behind in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
“Oredo’s young people deserve the same opportunities and infrastructure available anywhere in the country. This CBT Centre is about removing barriers, creating access and preparing our youths for the future of work, learning and innovation,” he said.
Dr. Iyamu further explained that the Centre when completed, would serve as a modern centre for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and other professional certification examinations, as well as digital skills training programmes targeted at empowering youths with globally relevant technology-driven competencies.
It was gathered that the Senator Daisy Danjuma Foundation, known for interventions in education, healthcare and women empowerment, embraced the partnership following consultations with Iyamu and community stakeholders on the pressing educational and digital needs of the constituency.
Beside the Centre, Dr. Iyamu had facilitated partnerships with Chinese institutions for youth development and also championed the training of over 800 youths in advanced tech and job-ready digital skills in collaboration with global technology firms, including Google.
