By Henry Uche, Lagos

In fulfillment of his campaign promises, the member representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency II, of Lagos State, in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Okey Joe Onuakalusi, has empowered 13 women with cash gift of N100,000 each alongside catering, fashion design materials, laptops and other tools, having successfully completed a training session.

While celebrating International Women’s Day yesterday, the Legislator reechoed the theme ‘Inspire Inclusion (Count Me In)’, saying there’s is no successful family or nation without a woman, and whoever count women out in anything, does that at his peril. Hence the need to promote gender equality for economic development.

Onuakalusi avowed that the girl child needs to be educated, because having more female leaders in all human endeavours translate to productivity and success. “Women economic empowerment is central to realising their rights and gender equality. So they should enjoy equal choices, power, capabilities, opportunities and knowledge as equal citizens for the betterment of all” he urged.

In support, a socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, called on women to be fearless, resilient and persevere in whatever dreams they pursue in Life despite oppositions.

Yesufu who spoke via zoom narrated her ordeal to over 500 women who listened to her, in other to inspire them and make them believe in the possibility of anything. “When you identify yourself, stand up for what you believe in and give yourself a permission to excel, you would excel”

The advocate for good governance charged women not fall in for any kind of offering but they should love themselves the way they are, take responsibilities, and never entertain fear nor any form of limitation. “It is not a crime to fall, but it’s a crime to remain on the ground, there is no limit to what women can achieve” she maintained.

The convener of the event (under the HOJ Foundation), Mrs Ofomata Uchenna, said the group would not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that every barrier towards women’s emancipation and exploit are dismantled by any legal means possible.

“We create environment where every voice is heard and valued. This day is about recognising unsung heroines. We want a world that inspires inclusion and embraces diversity where every woman’s potential can truly be unleashed,” she stressed.
