In celebration of International Women’s Day, women groups in Nasarawa State, spearheaded by the People’s Democratic Party and led by Miranda Asheazi Ombugadu, distributed over 150,000 wrappers and kitchen utensils to women across the 13 local government areas of the state.
Sun gathered that the initiative is organized by the Miranda Asheazi Ombugadu (MAO) NGO, aimed to empower women and recognize their invaluable contributions to society.
Mrs. Ombugadu during the celebration of the international women’s Day held yesterday in Akwanga local government area of the state emphasized the importance of women’s inclusion in positions of authority, urging President Bola Tinubu to appoint more women into his cabinet and other key roles.
She expressed confidence that women’s perspectives would contribute significantly to the nation’s progress and development.
“I am looking forward to seeing more women in key leadership positions such as Senators, Ministers, and Governors,” Mrs. Ombugadu stated during the celebration in Akwanga Local Government Area. “Investing in women is crucial for accelerating progress in our state and nation,” she added.
Reflecting on her husband’s support for women empowerment, Mrs. Ombugadu thanked Rt. Hon. David Ombugadu for his unwavering commitment to uplifting women and enabling them to achieve their full potential.
It is reported that the ceremony also honored ten outstanding women from Nasarawa State for their selfless dedication to the state and Nigeria. The carnival-like event showcased the spirit of unity and empowerment among women in Nasarawa.
Similarly, in a short interview, the First Female Fifa Referee in Nasarawa State who was honoured at the event, Miss Felicia Oble used the opportunity to call on the government at all levels to continue to initiate policies aimed at eliminating cultural and traditional barriers to allow more women to participate in sports.
She stated that women’s participation in sports had remain low, especially in the northern parts of the country due to societal impediments and a lack of support.
Miss Felicia Oble noted that most young girls across communities in Nigeria are endowed with various skills in sports but not adequately tapped.
As women across the state received the symbolic wrappers and cooking utensils, the event underscored the collective effort towards gender equality and women’s empowerment in Nasarawa State.
