The Institute of Security and Strategic Studies have advocated inter-agency collaboration in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.
The ISSS noted some of the collaboration to include the strengthening of inter – agency security meetings and briefing and clarification of inter-agency roles to prevent rivalry and conflicts and strengthen legal framework and policies to enhance accountability.
The was contained in a communique issued at the end of its 6th Annual Security Executive Converge held in Calabar at the weekend with the theme “Addressing Nigeria’s Security Challenges: A Panacea for SocioEconomic Development, with about 30 Delegates from several the private
and public sector.”
In the communique, endorsed by six persons including Prof. Azeez Olaniyan (Board Sec, ISSS), the organisation also noted that government should ensure training and capacity building of personnel,
developing a seamless communication network amongst agencies and fairness in recruitment process.
The organisation further noted that the use of technology for operations, creation of functional Joint Command Centre (JCC) in the Office of the NSA and instituting performance evaluation mechanism as one of panacea for resolving inter-agency rivalry.
The objectives of this year’s converge include
identifying security challenges bedeviling Nigeria today and
proffering solutions and make recommendations to the federal government on
resolutions met by the converge on addressing security challenges for socio-economic
development of the nation.
At this year’s converge, several papers were presented by intellectuals and security experts from selected institutions across the country.
