Fixes N4,000 one-off charge for result verification
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have announced an end to multiple payment of fees for the verification of O’Level results by candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
This was contained in a joint press statement on Tuesday on the recently introduced WASSCE O’Level Result Verification Service.
Under the new arrangement, candidates would pay N4,000 only once to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) O’Level results through the JAMB-provided Verification Service platform.
The verified results will subsequently be made available to the relevant tertiary institutions for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes.
The development means candidates will no longer be required to pay separate verification charges to different institutions after completing the approved verification process through JAMB.
The two bodies said all candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB would be required to verify their WAEC results only once through JAMB.
They stressed that the N4,000 verification fee is payable once through the specified platform, rather than through candidates’ preferred institutions.
“Candidates are to pay N4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions,” the statement said.
JAMB and WAEC further directed tertiary institutions to utilise the verified results shared by JAMB for screening candidates, processing admissions and other relevant administrative purposes.
“The institutions, therefore, are not expected to demand another payment from candidates for verification of the same WASSCE O’Level results,” they warned.

JAMB and WAEC said the new arrangement is expected to particularly benefit candidates seeking admission into multiple institutions, as they will no longer have to repeat the verification process or pay separate verification fees to different schools.
The examination bodies also disclosed that candidates could initiate the verification process from the comfort of their homes or any internet-enabled location, reducing the need for repeated visits to tertiary institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.
They urged candidates to take advantage of the arrangement by completing the verification of their WASSCE O’Level results once, assuring them that the verified outcome would be made available to the relevant institution.
WAEC said it had also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes.
According to the two organisations, the arrangement is aimed at reducing the financial and logistical burden on candidates while simplifying the admission process.
They said the collaboration would also help to maintain the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records by ensuring that institutions rely on results verified through the approved channel.
JAMB and WAEC described the initiative as part of their commitment to putting candidates’ interests first, reducing unnecessary costs and eliminating the stress associated with repeated O’Level result verification during the admission process.
They urged candidates to make full use of the new verification service and avoid making additional payments to institutions for verification of results already verified through JAMB.
