The State of Israel has said it resumed full operations in Gaza following Hamas’s repeated refusal to release 59 hostages, as well as its rejection of all proposals received from the United States Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and from mediators.
The Embassy of the State of Israel in Abuja, in a statement made available to TheSun.ng, said Israel, on 18 March 2025, attacked terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip.
“As of this morning, Israel is operating with full force against the Hamas terrorist organisation in the Gaza Strip.
“We have reached this situation after Hamas repeatedly refused proposals to extend the ceasefire and release our hostages.

“Hamas rejected two concrete mediation proposals presented by the United States President’s envoy, Steve Witkoff. Israel agreed to these mediation proposals. Hamas refused them,” the Embassy of the State of Israel said.
The Israeli Government further said the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) is striking Hamas terrorist targets across the Gaza Strip, aiming to achieve the war’s objectives, which include the release of all Israeli hostages, the dismantling of Hamas’s military and governmental infrastructure, and the removal of the terrorist threat from Gaza to Israel’s security and its citizens.
Following the development, Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, said: “Israel will not allow the Hamas terrorist regime to control the Gaza Strip and continue to terrorise Israelis and Palestinians alike. The Hamas leadership have stated clearly that they want to carry out further massacres of Israeli citizens—just as they did on 7 October 2023—and Israel will act as any country would, to defend its citizens.
“Hamas can end this conflict immediately by releasing the hostages it has held for 529 days and laying down their arms.”
The Israeli Government also said the Israeli actions were taken in coordination with the United States.
