In a bid to end the humanitarian crisis caused by the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar and his counterparts, have called for France’s support.

The Special Assistant, Communications and Media Strategy to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alkasim Abdulkadir, in a statement made available to Daily Sun, said the request was collectively made by the foreign ministers during a meeting with President Macron in Paris, France, after which the ministers went into another meeting with French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonna.

Others who were at the meeting in with President Emmanuel Macron were foreign ministers of Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt, and the Secretary General of the Arab League.

Abdulkadir explained that the visit was part of the ongoing efforts by the Ministerial Committee constituted by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit to find a lasting solution to the war in Gaza.

In his remarks at the meeting, Tuggar once again reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to a two-state solution and called for a ceasefire between Israeli Defense Forces and Hamas.

Tuggar also condemned the disproportionate use of force against innocent civilians and the destruction of critical infrastructure in Gaza.

Abdulkadir further said the meeting discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings, ceasefire efforts and protection of civilians, and the importance of establishing and building a truce.

“The Meeting also discussed many topics of common interest aimed at enhancing the security and stability of the Middle East and the world. Recall that Ambassador Tuggar and the Committee also met with the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, David Cameron on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, where they had a robust discussion on the situation in Gaza.

“The Ministerial Committee which is chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah met with Catherine Colonna in Paris, in furtherance of the Committee’s engagement with global leaders aimed at restoring permanent peace in the Gaza Strip.
