Nigerian midfielder Quadri Liameed has been discharged from hospital after being knocked unconscious during Sabadell’s 2-1 defeat to Albacete in Spain’s second division.
The 24-year-old suffered a blow to the head on Saturday night after Albacete midfielder Jose Corpas struck him while attempting an aerial volley for a loose ball.
Liameed fell to the ground unconscious and was immediately taken to hospital for emergency medical attention.
Sabadell later confirmed that the Nigerian had regained consciousness and was undergoing medical observation and further tests.
The club subsequently announced that he had been discharged after the examinations returned no further medical concerns. He was also cleared to travel back to Sabadell with his teammates.
“The best news has arrived! Quadri Liameed has received medical discharge after all the tests have come out well and will return tonight to Sabadell!
“We want to thank the medical services of Albacete for the help received at all times,” the club said in a statement.
Despite the frightening incident, Liameed has been an important member of Sabadell’s squad this season, featuring in all 12 of the club’s league matches.
The midfielder has also provided three assists as Sabadell continue their push for promotion to La Liga, although they remain nine points behind the league leaders.
His discharge will come as a relief to the club and supporters after the worrying scenes during Saturday’s encounter.
