The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi-Raja, has told United States President Donald Trump that Iran is not the same as Venezuela.

The envoy stated this while speaking with journalists in Abuja on the recent protests in Iran that reportedly recorded over 3,000 deaths.

Mahdavi-Raja blamed the United States Government and the State of Israel for infiltrating the protests, saying terrorists hijacked the demonstrations and carried out destructive activities in the manner of ISIS.

The Iranian envoy said the case of Venezuela was something else, while that of Iran was different.

Mahdavi-Raja said: “I must say that Iran is different from Venezuela. Iran is completely different from Venezuela, and we have demonstrated this over the past several decades. In particular, during the eight years of the imposed war, and also during the recent twelve-day war in the past few months, which was launched against us by the Zionist regime, and the Americans, we demonstrated our capabilities and showed that we are able to defend our country, our national interests, and our territorial integrity.

“In any type, we defended our country against Zion Regime, against the United States when they attacked directly. The United States and Zion Regime.”

Mahdavi-Raja further said the statement made by Trump during the protest was a direct threat to Iran as president of the United States.

“So, in this regard, we will defend our country anytime. If any foreign countries, including the United States or the Israeli Regime, if they attack us, we will give a strong response to those two countries,” he stated.

The envoy also insisted Iran was not Venezuela, saying that Iranians are fully ready to defend themselves, as they had shown their readiness several times.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, blamed President Donald Trump for weeks of demonstrations that rights groups said have led to more than 3,000 deaths.

Mahdavi-Raja had, during the media briefing, also blamed President Trump for the outcome of the protest.

Asked how Trump contributed to the deaths recorded during the protest, Mahdavi-Raja said President Trump directly and clearly supported the people who took to the streets to protest against the government.

“I have a question: can you tolerate yourself, any president of foreign countries advise your people to go to the street against your government, to protest against your government to damage the public properties, to destabilise the security? I think none of you, and none of us can tolerate such interference,” he stated.

Mahdavi-Raja, while backing the Supreme Leader, said: “This is the reason why our supreme leader expressed that this result is a result of the interference of the United States and Zion Regime, with the provocation of several comments, several tweets by President Donald Trump to provoking people to come to the street against Iran.”
