Thousands of soldiers from the U.S. Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division have begun arriving in the Middle East, according to U.S. officials, as Donald Trump considers next steps in the ongoing conflict with Iran.

The deployment follows earlier reports that the U.S. administration was weighing the option of sending additional troops to the region, potentially expanding military operations to include actions inside Iranian territory.

The incoming paratroopers, based out of Fort Bragg, are joining thousands of sailors, Marines, and Special Operations forces already positioned across the Middle East.

Over the weekend, about 2,500 Marines were also deployed, further reinforcing U.S. military presence as tensions escalate.

Officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the exact locations of deployment were not disclosed but noted that the buildup had been anticipated as part of broader contingency planning.

The reinforcements include elements of the division’s headquarters, logistics units, support teams, and one brigade combat team aimed at strengthening operational readiness.

While no final decision has been taken to send troops into Iran, the deployment is expected to enhance U.S. capacity for potential missions, including securing strategic routes like the Strait of Hormuz or targeting key infrastructure such as Kharg Island, which handles a significant share of Iran’s oil exports.
