The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) has asked polytechnic staff who claimed the reversed June double salary was paid into private accounts to show proof of such anomaly.
The AGF insisted that an error led to the double payment of some federal polytechnic workers’ salary in June, which it said was automatically reversed into government coffers.
However, The Education Report learnt that some banks are yet to reverse the double salary paid into the polytechnic workers’ account.
The AGF’s director of press and public relations Bawa Mokwa, challenged staff of polytechnics to produce evidence that the reversed June salary was paid into private accounts.
“Tell them to send the alert they received when the reversal was made with the name they alleged was used. This alert will help us to know if the allegation they raised is true.
“We are already investigating their claims. But we need the alerts they got when the June double salary was reversed. Like I said earlier, the system reversed the double salary automatically. We are currently investigating this issue,” Mokwa said.
He explained that staff who have not refunded the June double salary may not receive their July salary, “there is no way, they will get their July pay if they have not refunded the double payment made into their account.”
The Education Report also gathered that some polytechnic workers have not been paid June’s salary due to technical issues.
Investigations revealed that three banks handling polytechnic staff salary have not been cleared to make the payment into individual accounts.
Mokwa confirmed the situation and stated that actions has been put in place to resolve the delay.
