A 37-year-old security guard, Ndifreke Godwin, has been arrested by the police in Cross River State for allegedly sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl along Tinapa Road, Calabar.

The suspect was accused of luring the minor to his residence with a promise to give her money before allegedly assaulting her.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, August 29, 2026.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said in a statement that the victim’s mother reported the matter to the police the same day.

He said operatives immediately swung into action and arrested Godwin.

According to him, the command had issued the child a medical form for medical examination and treatment.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet and thorough investigation.

“The suspect will be accorded due process. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation,” Eitokpah said.
