Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is seeking variation of his bail terms, just as the Federal High Court in Abuja adjourned his trial to October 17.
Kanu, who was to appear in court yesterday, was last arraigned on April 25, 2017, during which he was granted bail on health grounds.
He was arrested in 2015, on an 11-count charge bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony.
Six of the charges, including that of terrorism, were struck out early in 2017. He is being tried alongside three other defendants which include Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.
Justice Binta Nyako had adjourned the sitting to Tuesday and Wednesday for indefinite commencement of the trial. But, the court sitting did not hold as scheduled for undisclosed reasons.
It was also learnt that Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu’s lawyer, is seeking the variation of the bail conditions given to his client.
Apart from barring Kanu from granting interviews while on bail, Nyako had also ordered him not to hold any rally, or be in a crowd of more than 10 people. However, Kanu has flouted most of his bail conditions. He has granted press interviews on different occasions and had also been seen in a group of more than 10 persons.
