Insecurity: Governors seek spiritual intervention

APC governors

From John Adams Minna

The Progressive Governors’ Forum has called on the traditional rulers in the country to help conjure with gods of the land over the security challenges bedevilling the country.

The forum commended President Bola Tinubu for strengthening the security architecture in the country, but insisted that the current situation required spiritual intervention.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, stated this in Minna, the Niger State capital, yesterday, when he led the progressive governors to pay a solidarity visit to their Niger State counterpart over the flood disaster in Mokwa early this year and other bandits’ attacks across the state.

According to Uzodimma, “We want to call on traditional rulers in the country to conjure with gods of the land to protect the nation.”

He admitted that the security situation in the country seems to have defied every intervention, stressing that there is the need for a collective action towards addressing the menace.

He, however, pointed out that some of the incidences of flood disasters in the country are avoidable if adequate measures were put in place, adding, “it is therefore a call to duty for the government at all levels to put in place preventive measures to forestall future occurrence.”

He said the Forum was deeply touched by the loss of lives from the various disasters that had befallen the state. “It, therefore, beholds on us to come and sympathise with the government and people of the state,” he added.

The Niger State Governor, Umaru Mohammed Bago, thanked the governors for the concern they had shown towards the plight of the people as a result of various disasters that had befallen the state.

He told the visitors that the state had suffered a lot in terms of insecurity, flood disasters and other forms of disasters. “But we have been able to cope because of support from everyone, including the Federal Government,” he added.

Those on the visit were Governors of Lagos, Imo, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Delta and Kogi states.

Jigawa, Kebbi and Sokoto states were represented by their deputy governors. All the traditional rulers in the state were also on hand to receive the governors.
