Following the renewed bloody kidnapping in some local government areas in Kaduna State, the state governor, Uba Sani has been urged to appoint a substantive commissioner for the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs for real-time coordination of security issues in the state.
Since he was sworn in about eight months ago, Mr Governor has in several pre-election and post-swearing engagements, promised to make the security of the lives and property of Kaduna residents his number one priority, which can only be squarely achieved with the appointment of a substantive commissioner in that regard.
The person overseeing the Security Ministry, Mr Samuel Aruwan, is the substantive Administrator of the Kaduna Capital Territory Authority. He pioneered the security Ministry during the immediate past administration of Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
One of the active citizens in the state and Team Lead, Coalition of Associations for Leadership, Peace, Empowerment and Development (CALPED), Mr. Yusuf Ishaku Goje wondered “why the state still has an overseer who doubles as the Administrator of Kaduna Capital Territory Authority leading the Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs instead of a substantive Commissioner”.
To Goje, in the SUSTAIN Manifesto of the current administration, “Security and Safety is number one on the agenda. This suggests it should be a priority. So why should there be a part-time head manning such a strategic Ministry that is the foundation of other pillars of development in the state?,” he queried.
“The recent attacks in some local governments show that the bandits are pretty much active and remain a threat to our political and socio-economic development. The job of coordinating internal security should not be on an ad-hoc basis.
“Therefore, it is high time the Overseer is fully appointed as the Commissioner, thereby relinquishing his other appointment or a new and capable person is appointed to provide full-time strategic leadership for the ministry.
“Let us engage, ask the right questions, and hold the government accountable,” Goje added.
