The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, have reassured Nigerians and the international community that the electorate and electoral materials will be adequately protected before, during and after the presidential and National Assembly elections.
Speaking separately during a briefing in Abuja, the IGP warned that anyone who does not have anything to do at the various polling stations should stay away, announcing that armed policemen have been detailed to arrest any electoral offender.
Making a special appeal to Nigerians to be peaceful and orderly throughout the exercise, he equally warned that any underage person tempting to be accredited or vote should be reported to INEC official or the police.
He admitted that there were shortfalls in certain electoral materials, revealing that arrangements had been made to mob up materials from places with surplus materials to make up the shortfalls. He was quick to add that based on the number of collected PVCs, there would be no shortfalls.
