The Secretary General of Organisation of Plastics Processors of India, Deepak Lawale has said the reason Nigeria’s plastic industry is yet to grow is due to lack of capital and non availability of raw materials and plastic machineries.
Lawale spoke while addressing journalists at the Indian High Commission in Lagos on Thursday to announce the the 10th Edition of the International Plastic Exhibition, Conference and Convention, tagged: ‘PlastIndia 2018: Empowering Growth’, which will hold in India from February 7th to 12th, 2018. He said plastic Industry is not new to Nigeria as there are many people in Nigeria associated with the plastic industry for a very long time.
However, he noted, that the development of Plastic industry in Nigeria is not what it could have been, because Nigeria does not produce raw material.
He said: “These imports requires lots of capital and in Nigeria, availability of capital has always been a problem and that is the reason the plastic industry in Nigeria has not grown to the extend it should have grown.
“This is why we want Nigerians to visit Plasindia Exhibition and source the requirements of raw materials, plastic machinery and also plastic products from India at a very reasonable cost.”
Lawale further stated that because Nigeria does not make or produce machines, it depend on importing from various countries like Europe, Germany and many other places.
He noted that Nigerians will benefit a lot from the PlastIndia Exhibition by sourcing the requirement of machines of European quality at a much lower rate from India.
“We want people to visit India and see how plastic industry has grown in India and we can always join hands with other exhibitions or organising associations in Nigeria and elsewhere to stage an exhibition in Nigeria for the plastic industry,” he stated.
Over 2000 Exhibitors, 200,000 visitors and 500 overseas exhibitors are expected at the exhibition.
The PlastIndia Exhibition will showcase two distinct and critical facets, the future of the Plastics Industry and the future of humankind itself.
The growth segments like Automobiles, Healthcare, Packaging, infrastructure, Agriculture, Telecom, New & Renewable Energy and the emerging segments like Plastic Composites, Sports, 3-D Printing that shall drive in creating better equipped human beings, whether physically or in terms of ability to navigate hostile terrain, to nurture and support nature or to create magic by translating thoughts into products on a daily basis.
