The National President of Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Godwin Abumisi, has appealed to the Federal Government to appreciate the hardship frustration and pains that Nigerians, including pensioners, are currently facing as a result of the subsidy removal and speedily initiate relief measures that would ease the dire situation.

Abummsi who was represented by a member of the National Trustee, Abdullahi Tsoho Garba, at the flag off of the N6 billion payment to pensioners and relatives of deceased civil servants in Kano State also tasked the state government to similarly come up with prompt interventions to relieve pensioners and other vulnerable Nigerians.

He specifically appealed to the Federal Government to honour its pledge of including pensioners in the N35,000 cash award to workers as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy removal.

He recalled that they had recently met with the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Eddu, in respect of the issue while expressing optimism that the list of their members submitted to the minister will be treated with dispatch.

He saluted the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf for the payment of monthly pension as and when due, including halting the illegal deductions introduced by the Ganduje administration without any justification at state and local government levels.

He observed that Kano people are living in high expectations given the political background of Governor Abba while enjoining him to sustain the present tempo even as he assured him of their continued cooperation and support.
