Echoes of Hosanna ‘pulled the roof’ at the Anglican Church of Redemption, Awka, Anambra State capital, as the church joined the Christians across the world to mark the 2023 Palm Sunday in grand style.
The service which held with the theme “Having the Mindset of Christ” featured a series of choruses that made the day a symbolic one indeed, marking the commemoration of Christ’s entry into Jerusalem as King.
In an interview with newsmen on the significance of Palm Sunday, a curate of the church, Rev. Can. Clement Izuegbu described the day as a very significant one in the life of every Christian, given that it marked the historic entry of Christ into Jerusalem to carry out the reason why He came down to the earth —to save the mankind.
He revealed that Christ made the ultimate sacrifice at the Jerusalem where He made the highest sacrifice and paid the ultimate price by laying His life for the atonement of the sins of the world.
He further re-echoed the call on individuals and groups to make Jesus the King over their lives and affairs, even as he also called on the leadership of Nigeria to enthrone Christ and submit to His Lordship over the country for a total turnaround.
Earlier in his homily, Mr. Uche Uwaezuoke who spoke on the theme of the day, “Having the Mindset of Christ”, noted that it is the heart desire of God that every human being has the mindset of Christ, which involves thinking and acting like Jesus Christ.
Relying on Colossians 1:19-23 and Isaiah 8:11-13, he highlighted the various steps towards having the mindset of Christ, which, he said, include being dead to sin and being made a new creature, as well as walking with God and having daily fellowship with him. He also dwelt on Colossian 3:1-3 to call on the congregation to set their hearts on the things that are above, as such is God’s expectation of them, for a guaranteed life eternal after here on earth.
“The intent of God is that you look unto Christ, and that is what he expects of you daily,” he said.
Among other side attractions, the service featured thanksgiving accompanied with the tone of melodious praises by the Redemption Band, as well as a special rendition of Stephen Adams ‘Holy City’ by the Redemption Choir.
