The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the release of Hon Ngozi Ogbu, former legislator who represented the Okigwe State Constituency and a former council chairman, who was abducted by suspected pro-Biafra activists at Onuimo Local Government Area of the state on Sunday, September 7.
The state police spokesperson, Henry Okoye (DSP), who disclosed this in a statement released to journalists on Thursday, September 18, 2025, said Ogbu was freed on Wednesday night following intense pressure mounted on his abductors by security operatives.
Okoye also assured members of the public that the command, in synergy with other security agencies, is working tirelessly to ensure those behind the abduction are apprehended and brought to justice. He did not disclose how the release was secured.

“The Imo State Police Command reassures members of the public of our unwavering commitment to sustaining peace and strengthening the security of everyone in Imo State,” Okoye said.
Recall that Ogbu was seen in a viral video where he was forced by the Biafra separatist group, which identified themselves as members of the Biafra Liberation Army (BLA), to tell security agents to pull out from the White House at Aku Ihube in Okigwe area, where they had been laying siege to the insurgents, or he would be killed.
His captors had stated in the video trending on social media platforms that the only condition for Ogbu’s release was for the state government to dismantle the security presence, referred to as the “Men in Black”, occupying the “White House” in the area.
Ogbu’s release followed the recent capture of the commander of the Biafra separatist group, Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta, popularly known as “Gentle de Yahoo”, by joint security operatives.
