Former Commonwealth and World Wrestling Champion, Morris Atula, said he has finally returned home after about 40 years sojourn in Europe with the bold intention to revive wrestling sport in Nigeria.
Atula, a former Chairman of Edo State Wrestling Association, said on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Sunday morning, that he was inspired by the return of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the presence of technocrats like Mallam Shehu Dikko and Bukola Olapade as Chairman and Director General, respectively.

“I have fully returned home to partake in nation building directly. I’m happy that Mr President brought in technocrats to run the NSC, and I have a key role to play if elected as the next president of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation.
“I’m tested and trusted having wrestled all over the world. I’m a technocrat with experience garnered as an amateur and professional wrestler. I have been a successful coach and a sound administrator. I will work with key stakeholders to make Nigeria rank among the best wrestling nations as it was when the late Mike Bamidele was our coach.
“I have plans to involve veterans and other technocrats in reviving wrestling. We shall embark on massive sponsorship drive to ensure regular training and championships in all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). There would be training opportunities for the coaches towards. I’m encouraged by the current emphasis on training and grassroots development. I’m, indeed, proud and happy to be back home. By the grace of God, great strides will be recorded”, Atula emphasised.
