The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, Prof Taiwo Asaolu, on Thursday, disclosed that the first set of students would be admitted for the 2023/2024 academic year in September.

He said the university will start with five faculties viz arts, social and management sciences, law, basic medical and applied sciences, and faculty of education.

He disclosed this at Ilesa during the familiarization visit of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Hon Gbenga Onigbogi, to the university.

He said, “By the grace of God before the end of September 2023, the first set of students will be admitted into the University of Ilesa. We have just had our resource verification led by the executive secretary of the national universities commission, Dr. Chris Mayaki and even with our preparation we are expecting that we will be given the passing mark to commence this once we pass this, they will communicate with JAMB and we will be given students.”

Prof Asaolu explained that the university will be made different from others by ensuring that every student passes the entrepreneur course before they would graduate.

“We are trying to make this an entrepreneurial-oriented university so that you cannot graduate from this university without having a skill adding to what your primary discipline is. It’s going to be compulsory. You must acquire an additional skill before you can graduate from this university,” Asaolu said.

Speaking, Onigbogi disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the state Ministry of Works to begin work on the road infrastructure, assuring that other demands will be met as soon as possible.

He said, “The issue of funding of the University, the appointment of more staff, payment of outstanding allowances due to staff, regularization of the appointment of temporary staff, official vehicles for Principal Officers and key officers of the University, upgrading of infrastructural facilities in the University are all being addressed by the State Government. I have indeed received assurance from Mr. Governor that positive actions shall be taken on the issues very soon.”
