- Gives varsity management 14-ultimatum

Academic staff in the three owned-state universities have issued a 14-day ultimatum to their various management over non-implementation of the 2025 FG/ASUU signed agreement.
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) gave their respective management the 14-day ultimatum after their congresses.
The congresses were summoned in line with the directive of the National Executive Council NEC (meeting) held in Abuja that states were the FG/ASUU agreement has not been implemented should issue the ultimatum and failure of the state governors to meet the demands, such branches can embark on strike.
The branch executives are expected to communicate the resolutions of the congresses in a letter to the various vice chancellors.
One of the branch chairmen told Daily Sun that the 14-day ultimatum is not targeted at the university management but directed at the state government.
At the congresses held on Wednesday and Thursday, August 26th and 27th, members overwhelmingly voted the 14-day ultimatum.
Officers from ASUU Lagos Zone, led by the Coordinator, Prof. Adesola Nassir was present during the deliberations. The resolutions at the three congresses will be taken to the NEC-for-NEC meeting in Abuja for further actions if the state government fails to implement the 2025 FG/ASUU agreement.
The three university unions also said they have declared a trade dispute with LASU, LASUED and LASUSTECH management over the non-implementation of the signed agreement.
One of the letters to a VC reads: “We write to formally bring to the attention of the university management the continued non-implementation of key provisions of the ASUU–FG agreement, particularly the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), the previously submitted revised salary template, and the outstanding non-financial components applicable to our institution.
“Despite several communications and engagements concerning the implementation of the revised salary template for academic staff, management has yet to effect its implementation or settle the consequential financial obligations arising therefrom.
“This prolonged delay has placed our members under considerable and unjustifiable financial pressure, particularly in the face of the prevailing economic challenges. It has also generated widespread dissatisfaction, weakened staff morale, and negatively affected the general atmosphere within the university community.”
The unions are also demanding for the payment of outstanding arrears and financial entitlements arising from the delayed implementation.
The three branches stressed that the ultimatum will expire on September 9th and 10th, 2026 and should the management fail to resolve these issues within the stipulated period, the unions shall compelled to take appropriate industrial action, without further notice, in accordance with the resolution of congress and applicable procedures.
“We sincerely hope that management will treat this matter with the urgency and seriousness it deserves and take immediate steps to resolve the dispute. A timely resolution will not only address the legitimate concerns of our members but will also help protect the university’s academic calendar, preserve staff morale, and sustain industrial peace within the institution,” it warns.
