The Concerned Sons and Daughters of Ikoga-Zebbe, Badagry, Lagos State, have again made a passionate appeal to the Chairman, Governing Council of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, to unconditionally reinstate five wrongly dismissed ASUU-LASU union leaders.
The indigenes said their demands to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu should lift the embargo his government placed on the implementation of the decision of LASU Governing Council on February 23rd, 2022, on, Dr. Tony Dansu, and other four ASUU-LASU officials who were wrongfully and illegally dismissed from the services of the university in 2017 and 2019
In a letter titled: ‘’Our Unquenchable Quest for Justice and Fairness in the Case of Dr. Tony Dansu and Four other ASUU-LASU Officers Wrongly Dismissed in LASU, was addressed to the council chairman and signed by James Babatunde Avoseh, Dr. Mayowa John Adejobi, Barrister TINKA, Gigonou Gabriel, Ademola Akoteyon Bokoh, Francis Pedepo Avoseh and Barrister Medemaku Abayomi Noah.
Other demands are payment all accrued financial entitlements and benefits and implement promotions merited given without loss of seniority and entitlements.
They disclosed that the group made up of indigenous Lagosians, consolidated these efforts by reaching out to many stakeholders to prevail on the government to do what is just, needful, and overdue in respect of these cases.
“We were elated when we received information that the immediate past Governing Council, at its meeting of July 3rd, 2025, upheld the recommendations of its Appeals Committee, headed by your good self, that the requests above be formalized, alongside the offer by the affected ASUU-LASU officials to voluntarily withdraw their services from the university immediately after implementation.
“We understand the decision to mean a clear directive to the university administration to finalize the discussions with them with a view to making same a binding agreement between the two parties through its submission as consent judgment to the industrial court.
“Sadly, about five months after this decision, we are yet to see any positive result! This is why we feel constrained yet again to call your attention to this matter. We believe that providence has brought you to the position of the chairman of council at this very point in time so that you can among other things, resolve this lingering issue that has unjustly impacted the lives of those affected for so long, even after their exoneration by the immediate past governing council,” Zebbe-Ikoga indigenes noted.
According to the, facts available reveal that between September 2017 and September 2019, five exco members of ASUU-LASU were dismissed by the previous governing council of LASU on the basis of frivolous charges brought against them by the administration of Prof. Lanre Fagbohun.
The Zebbe-Ikoga indigenes said they are aware that in 2021, the current university administration under the Vice Chancellorship of Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello asked for an out-of-court settlement of the cases and this was followed by the reversal of the five dismissals, and the reinstatement of the officers by the new governing council under the chairmanship of Sir David Sunmoni on February 23rd, 2022.
They added: “The reversal and the reinstatement came as a result of two committees’ reports that vindicated the union leaders. But less than 24 hours after the council resolution, Lagos State Government forced the university governing council to put the implementation of its decision on the union leaders on hold.
“This was on the premise that Council should wait for the release of the government’s white paper on the 2021 LASU visitation panel. Since February 2022 (more than three years), nothing has been heard from the government on this matter.”
They revealed that Prof. Lanre Fagbohun and some other past and present principal officers, senior academic and non-academic staffers of the university, whose issues were treated by the visitation panel have been reabsorbed and reappointed back to LASU without recourse to the visitation panel report or government’s white paper.
The group said they are aware that Dr. Dansu served the university in many capacities including the selfless and thankless service of the union that led to his dismissal with other officers and demanded their unconditionally reinstatement.
