Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu has reassured officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force that ongoing policing reforms, including discussions on the proposed establishment of state police, will not undermine their careers, welfare, pensions or accrued benefits.

The IGP gave the assurance yesterday in Jigawa State, where he visited Governor Umar Namadi, who attended the 8th Executive Committee Meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council in Dutse. He also addressed officers and men of the Jigawa State Police Command.

In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said IGP Disu explained that the proposed state police reform is aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s policing architecture while preserving a strong national policing institution capable of addressing interstate and national security threats.

He urged personnel to remain professional and disciplined, warning that the Force would maintain a zero-tolerance stance against corruption, extortion, abuse of office and other forms of misconduct.

At the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council meeting, chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the IGP commended the council for its continued role in promoting dialogue, peaceful coexistence and national cohesion.

He stressed the critical role of traditional rulers in intelligence gathering, conflict resolution and early warning mechanisms, noting that collaboration between traditional institutions and security agencies remains vital to addressing insecurity across Northern Nigeria.

The IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to working closely with the Jigawa State Government in strengthening security and community-based policing initiatives across the state.

He urged officers to deepen community engagement, embrace intelligence-led policing, and uphold the highest standards of integrity and respect for human rights.
