The Nigeria Police Force has welcomed the coronation of retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo, as the traditional ruler (Igwe) of Ihueze-Nnewe Autonomous Communities in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, in a statement, described the coronation of retired DIG Nwobodo, which took place on Saturday, 27 December 2025, as a well-deserved honour that reflects his lifetime of exemplary service, integrity, and commitment to leadership, both in public service and community development.

Egbetokun said his elevation to the revered traditional stool stands as an affirmation of the confidence reposed in his character, wisdom, and capacity to lead.

The IGP, in the statement signed by Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hindeyi, said retired DIG Nwobodo joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1984 and rendered over three decades of distinguished service in various operational, administrative, and leadership capacities across the country.

He served creditably as Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in several police divisions nationwide, where he demonstrated professionalism and exemplary leadership. He later served as Director of Courses at the Nigeria Police Academy, Kano, contributing significantly to the training and mentorship of police officers.

He rose to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, where he was entrusted with the leadership of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Force Headquarters, Abuja. In that capacity, he played a notable role in advancing the integration of technology into policing operations and administration within the Force.

Retired DIG Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo retired meritoriously from the Nigeria Police Force on 12 August 2019, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, discipline, and institutional contribution. His transition from national service to traditional leadership marks a continuation of his lifelong commitment to service, now directed towards fostering peace, unity, cultural preservation, and sustainable development within his community.

Egbetokun said he is confident that His Royal Highness, Igwe Godwin Chijioke Nwobodo, will bring his wealth of experience in leadership, conflict management, and governance to bear in the discharge of his royal responsibilities.
