The Eze Ndigbo Ifako Ijaiye,Lagos Eze Michael Ezekwobi (Oyiomanatumba Nɗigbo Gbaagburugburu) has called on Igbo leaders in the Diaspora to ensure that Igbo culture and tradition survive the encroachment by alien culture of host communities.
In a statement, Ezekwobi lamented that our language and culture is gradually being eroded by foreign traditions and if what UNESCO findings that Igbo language is on the verge of extension is to be taken seriously,then Igbo cultural leaders must do everything in their power to safeguard the culture.
On what Igbo must do to save their language, Ezekwobu urge Igbo parents to speak the language to their children from birth.
“For us in Ifako Ijaiye, we have made the language compulsory in all our meetings. No one is allowed to speak foreign language in our midst. Thru this means our language is embedded in the heart of our people. “
Going down memory lane, the Royal Father recalled that it was the late Ikemba and Eze Igbo gburugburu Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu that directed that Igbo establish Ezeship institution in the Diaspora whose task is to provide cultural guidance for millions of Ndigbo outside Igboland.
