Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, who spoke in Abuja, on Wednesday, at the opening ceremony of a two-day conference organised by the International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) on the theme, “Coordinate to Achieve 2-Inclusive and Sustainable Inter-religious Dilaogue in Nigeria” encouraged Nigerians be hopeful and continually
work for peaceful co-existence among Nigerians of diverse faith.
“We must tell ourselves the truth irrespective of religious divide. We must support government to deal with these enemies of peace, because they are obviously not conversant with the true teaching of Christianity and Islam,” Sultan said.
He said that the enormous respect and authority enjoyed by religious leaders ought to propel them to be in vanguard of promoting peace through respect for one another.
“I have never insulted any religious leader because we ought to be tolerant of each other, working towards achieving peace. I am optimistic that we would succeed one day no matter the obstacles, and those championing peace will succeed at the end of the day,” Sultan Abubakar hoped.
He however promised to continually support a platform where both faith can work together to bring peace and good governance in Nigeria.
National President of Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Samuel Ayokunle, represented by Bishop Stephen Adegbite, welcomed the conference and expressed willingness of Christians to assist in preaching peace.
He acknowledged that only God has the right to take anyone’s life and called on all to embrace peace and avoid unnecessary loss of innocent lives.
“We welcome all initiatives for peace and we want to state that we support all efforts aimed at preaching peace. We therefore deplore the level of violence that has led to killings,” the CAN President declared.
Speaking through a video broadcast from Vienna in Austria, the Director General of KAICIID, Fahad Abualnasr, said the International Dialogue Centre would continue to support and partner with all religious groups in Nigerians to ensure peace.
