The Olubadan-Elect, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has made an advocacy for the restoration of the architectural heritage of Ibadan and that the need for the city’s historic homes to be made liveable again.
He made the call when hundreds of Ibadan Mogajis (compound heads) paid a congratulatory visit to him at his residence on Ondo Street, Bodija, Ibadan, at the weekend.
Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, emphasised the pressing need for action to rejuvenate the city’s ancient structures.
He also urged heads of compounds and local leaders in Ibadan to take the lead in the urban renewal initiative.
Ladoja, whose coronation as the 44th Olubadan has been fixed for September 26, 2025, noted the trend of many Mogajis residing in affluent districts or even abroad, while abandoning their ancestral roots.
He stated that being a Mogaji is not merely an honour but a significant responsibility. He enjoined them to actively engage with their communities.
“We are looking at a situation where Mogajis and chiefs would not abandon their ancestral homes. By so doing, you can positively impact the younger generation looking for mentorship.

“We must not abandon our ancestral homes. Our presence is crucial for mentoring the younger generation,” he said.
The Olubadan-Elect urged them to revitalise dilapidated structures, adding that such efforts could play a pivotal role in reducing social vices, including drug abuse in the city.
Ladoja continued: “If we periodically inhabit these homes, we can create a positive environment for our youth.”
He revealed that he renovated his family house in Isale Osi, and he plans to visit the place regularly as Olubadan.
Ladoja lauded the commendable initiatives by some local leaders in supporting their communities, particularly through educational scholarships and fostering a conducive environment for development.
He called on the Mogajis and chiefs to rally behind his vision for a healthier and economically prosperous Ibadan.
In a show of solidarity, Chief Asimiyu Ariori, the leader of the Ibadan Mogajis, congratulated Oba Ladoja on his upcoming reign and pledged their collective support in the transformative journey ahead.
