Kebbi State Governor Dr Nasir Idris has urged Muslims in the state and across Nigeria to promote unity, compassion, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths and communities.
Idris made the call in a message to the Muslim Ummah on the occasion of the 1447 AH Maulud Nabiyy celebration, commemorating the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
He described Maulud as a period for sober reflection on the exemplary life of the Holy Prophet (SAW), whose teachings of love, peace, tolerance, humility and service to humanity remain a guiding light for Muslims.
“I would like to urge Muslims to use the celebration of Maulud to emulate the virtues of the Holy Prophet (SAW) by promoting unity, compassion and peaceful coexistence among different faiths and communities in the state.
“Let me also use this medium to call on citizens to pray for lasting peace and security in Kebbi State and Nigeria at large, because the challenges facing the nation require collective prayers and commitment from all,” the governor said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upholding Islamic values and supporting programmes that promote the welfare of Muslims, including the sponsorship of Islamic scholars and religious activities.
The governor stressed that his government remains dedicated to improving healthcare, education and social welfare for all residents, in line with the Prophet’s teachings on caring for the less privileged.
He charged youths to shun all forms of social vices and embrace the Prophet’s teachings of honesty, hard work and respect for elders, saying, “This is key to building a prosperous Kebbi.”
Gov. Idris emphasised the need for Muslims to remain united irrespective of political, ethnic or sectarian differences, and to support government policies and programmes aimed at promoting development.
He also encouraged wealthy individuals and philanthropists to use the Maulud period to extend support to orphans, widows and other vulnerable members of society, in keeping with the example of the Holy Prophet (SAW).
The governor commended Islamic clerics and leaders for their continued prayers and guidance, urging them to sustain the preaching of messages that foster peace, unity and national development.
He appreciated the Muslim community in Kebbi for its support for his administration and for maintaining peace before, during and after elections.
Gov. Idris prayed to Almighty Allah to accept the acts of worship offered during the Maulud period and to bless Kebbi State with abundant rainfall, bumper harvests and sustainable development.
He, however, wished all Muslims a peaceful, joyous and spiritually rewarding Maulud celebration, while praying for Allah’s guidance and protection for Kebbi State and the nation.
