• More bodies recovered from collapsed buildings

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said the explosion that rocked Adeyi area of Old Bodjia in Ibadan, Oyo State, suspected to have been caused by improvised explosive device (IED).

Preliminary report posted by the agency revealed that more than 20 houses were affected by the explosion.

The report read: “On arrival at the scene it was observed that it was a suspected explosion of IED which affected over twenty houses. Casualty figures can not be ascertain for now. Search and Rescue operation is still on going.

“Stakeholders present include NPF, NSCDC, DSS, SEMA, Nigeria Army, Federal and State fire service, Nigerian Red Cross, state Ministry of Environment, Amotekun Corps.”

The agency said more resources have been mobilises to support the on going SAR Operations, adding that search and rescue operation at the scene of the incident, which was temporarily suspended in the night to allow responders to refresh. But SAR Operations has resume by 7.00am on Wednesday.

At least 77 persons were confirmed injured while two reportedly died due to the explosion as at the early hours of Wednesday.

Rescue operation of the victims of explosion that rocked Adeyi, Old Bodija Ibadan, resumed this morning.

Indications have also emerged that death toll may rise from two that was earlier reported. The number of injured victims may also rise from 77.

Already, all the ambulances stationed on the street have been asked to move into the scene. More people that were trapped under the rumble were reported to have been rescued.

One person that has been rescued alive this morning when the rescue operation resumed and he has been rushed to the hospital. But another person that was brought out from one of the collapsed buildings dead. Member of the landlord association in the community have also been invited to identify the corpse before it would be taken away from the scene.
