Ibadan Airport: Tragedy averted as jet conveying Minister of Power skids off runway

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, was on Friday evening, involved in a serious incident at the Ibadan Airport, after the private jet that was conveying him skidded off the runway.

Sunday Sun gathered that the HS25 aircraft with registration number: 5N-AMM and operated by Flint Aero, departed from Abuja on Friday, November 3, to the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan at 18:41utc. It had an initial contact with the control tower at 18:56, seeking extension, which was granted by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

But at 19:21utc, the plane landed short of the threshold with about 50 metres and skidded into a bush short of the runway.

There were no fatalities, but the aircraft suffered substantial damage while all the passengers and crew were safely evacuated.

The Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), James Odaudu, said that investigation into the incident has commenced.
