Former Anambra State Governor and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Peter Obi, has defended his repeated movement across political parties, insisting that his decisions were driven by principle rather than personal ambition.
Speaking during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Monday, Obi said he could not remain in political platforms where internal processes were compromised, stressing that genuine reform requires breaking away from flawed systems.
“I cannot be preaching change and doing the same thing,” he maintained.
Obi explained that his exit from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) followed disagreements with his successor in Anambra, while his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was due to what he described as a lack of transparency and transactional politics in the party’s primary process.

He said his move to the Labour Party was also guided by his commitment to due process, adding that his current involvement in the ADC is based on a broader coalition aimed at rescuing Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former presidential candidate maintained that he has never engaged in election rigging or inducement, insisting that his political choices have always been rooted in integrity and a desire to build a better society.
“I’ve never been involved in any form of rigging of election, at primary level, at the election itself, and after that,” he said.
Peter Obi added that if the ADC’s internal processes are ever compromised, he would again speak out, emphasizing that political loyalty should never outweigh the pursuit of justice, accountability, and national progress.
