Dettol Cool said it has intensified its hygiene advocacy campaign through the second edition of its OwnTheSweat initiative, aimed at encouraging Nigerians to stay fresh, cool and protected despite harsh weather conditions.

The campaign adopted a more interactive approach by taking hygiene conversations directly to fitness centres and other active lifestyle environments across the country.

Organisers said the initiative was designed to address the realities many Nigerians face daily, including excessive sweating, body odour and exposure to germs associated with prolonged outdoor activities and crowded conditions.

At the centre of the campaign is the Dettol Cool antibacterial bar soap, which the company said offers 99 per cent germ protection, cooling relief capable of lowering skin temperature by up to five degrees, and long-lasting defence against body odour during intense physical activity.

Through a series of pop-up activations, participants engaged in fitness routines, dance sessions and wellness challenges supervised by trained instructors, creating awareness around the importance of maintaining proper hygiene while living active lifestyles.

One of the major highlights of the campaign took place at the Lagos NYSC Camp, where corps members participated in fitness challenges, dance competitions and interactive quizzes facilitated by fitness instructor Ekemini Ekerette. Outstanding participants at the event were recognised as “Cool Champions” and rewarded with branded merchandise.

Speaking on the initiative, Marketing Director, Reckitt West Africa, Boma Harrison, said the campaign was created to engage Nigerians within their everyday routines while promoting simple but effective hygiene habits.

According to her, the second phase of the OwnTheSweat campaign moved beyond awareness creation by providing practical experiences in spaces where people are naturally active.

“With OwnTheSweat2.0 by Dettol Cool, we wanted to go beyond awareness and create real, engaging experiences in spaces where people are most active, such as the gym. It’s about showing that staying cool, fresh and maintaining good hygiene can be simple, even in demanding conditions. You can rely on Dettol Cool to get the job done,” she said.

Health experts have consistently emphasised the importance of maintaining good hygiene during periods of extreme heat, noting that excessive sweating and exposure to bacteria may contribute to skin irritation and unpleasant odours if not properly managed.

They advise regular bathing, proper skincare and the use of antibacterial cleansing products as part of measures to maintain personal health and comfort during hot weather conditions.

With the expansion of the OwnTheSweat campaign, Dettol Cool said it remains committed to promoting healthy living while supporting Nigerians in staying fresh, protected and confident in their daily activities.
