It was excitement galore for parents and children of the paediatrics ward and Special Baby Care Unit at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, NDUTH, Okolobiri as the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine commissioned a Playroom, and donated a phototherapy light to the Paediatric Ward and the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at the NDUTH as part of its commitment to improving Maternal and Child Healthcare in the community.

The event was attended by the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Health, Prof Seiyefa Brisibe, represented by the Ministry of Health Director of Medical Services, Dr Ngowari Torunana.

The brief project inauguration ceremony was attended by the top echelon of medical personnel in the tertiary health facility led by the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof Johnbull Jumbo; the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Ibienmo Opubiri; the Director of Nursing Services (DNS), Mrs Teme Wokoro among other members of the hospital management, healthcare professionals, Rotarians, and other distinguished guests.

The Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine delegation was led by the Club President, Rtn Onyaye Edgar Kunle-Olowu, with the esteemed presence of the Rotary International District 9141 Governor, DG Tony Olikagu, alongside other Rotary leaders and members.

The newly commissioned Playroom provides a safe and child-friendly environment where young patients can play and recover in comfort, while the Phototherapy Light donated to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) will support the treatment of newborn babies with neonatal jaundice, helping to improve survival rates and health outcomes.

This project reflects Rotary’s enduring commitment to humanitarian service and its dedication to supporting quality healthcare, especially for mothers and children, while creating a lasting impact in the community.

This gesture demonstrates the Rotary Club of Yenagoa Sunshine mantra of

Creating Lasting Impact Through Service Above Self, as it created an opportunity for the District Governor to formally induct two new members, Prof Johnbul Jumbo and Dr Torunana Ngowari, into the Rotary family.
