The Nigerian Navy said its operatives in Bayelsa state has successfully rescued seven persons following a boat collision at the Ogboinbiri waterways in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area  of the state.

A statement from the force’s spokesman, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho said the rescue operation was launched after a report of an accident involving a Tantita patrol boat and a wooden market boat.

The statement said personnel of the force attached to the Nigerian Navy Ship(NNS) Soroh were immediately deployed to the scene to salvage the situation.

According to naval authorities, the swift response of the rescue team led to the successful evacuation of the victims, who were taken to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Efforts are ongoing to locate other missing persons.

The operation, the Navy said, reflects its commitment to the vision of Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbass, which emphasises both maritime security and the protection of lives within Nigeria’s waterways.

The Navy also highlighted its recent record in similar operations, including the rescue of 16 passengers during a sea robbery incident in the Ibaka–Calabar Channel in Earlier in March. Similarly,  20 crew members from a burning vessel near Calabar were rescued in December 2025, 10 crew members from a distressed vessel in November 2025 and 17 kidnapped victims in October 2025 within the Calabar waterways.

These efforts, it noted, underscore its role as a responsive and people-oriented maritime force committed to safeguarding lives and maintaining security across Nigeria’s maritime domain.
