The Idowu Santana Entertainment Band was formed by Ojo Idowu Gbenga popularly referred to as Idowu Santana out of a passion for preserving the richness of African music while presenting it in a way that appeals to audiences across generations and cultures. From the very beginning, their vision has been to create music that celebrates heritage, brings people together, and delivers unforgettable live performances. As a group it is believed that music is a universal language, and it’s mission is to use it to promote unity, joy, and cultural pride wherever they perform.
As the lead singer and head of the band, Idowu Santana’s role in shaping the band’s musical direction, creative process, and overall identity can’t be overlooked. Instrumental to their growth and strength his leadership has seen him handle mantles. He further highlights, “My responsibility extends beyond performing. I help define our artistic vision, oversee the creative direction, and work closely with every member to ensure our performances reflect the high standards we have set over the years. I encourage collaboration while making sure our sound remains authentic, professional, and true to our identity. Leadership, to me, means inspiring excellence while allowing every member of the band to contribute their talents.”
Over the years every performance has contributed to their journey, but the most defining moments have been the opportunity to perform at the Felabration. That singular moment allowed them to play before a diverse audience and reinforced their reputation as a band capable of delivering exceptional live entertainment regardless of the occasion. The response from audiences has continually motivated them to improve and expand their reach.
On what distinguishes the band’s sound from others in their genre, Santana expressed, “Our sound is rooted in authentic African music while incorporating elements of highlife, Afrobeat, juju, contemporary gospel influences, and modern live instrumentation. We focus heavily on musicianship and live performance rather than relying solely on studio production. While we embrace innovation and evolving musical trends, we remain committed to preserving the authenticity and cultural essence that define our identity. That balance has allowed us to stay relevant while remaining original.”
It’s not enough to have just sailed through the years without recognitions that attests to growth and appraisals for work well done. And as such they have earned the award for Best Juju Artist of the year 2023/2024 among others. For the band the greatest achievement is the trust they have earned and the relationships they have built through consistently delivering quality performances. Every recognition motivates them to maintain excellence and continue representing Nigerian music with professionalism and pride.
