Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown has admitted guilt in a UK court over his involvement in a 2023 nightclub altercation in London, resolving the public order aspect of a case that had exposed him to more serious criminal charges.
The 37-year-old entered a guilty plea to a charge of affray on Friday during proceedings at Southwark Crown Court, where he simply replied, “Guilty,” after the charge was read.
His admission effectively removes the need for a trial on more severe allegations, including attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing an offensive weapon—a bottle. Prosecutors told the court those charges, which Brown had denied, would be formally discontinued.
The case arose from an incident at Tape, an exclusive nightclub in Hanover Square, London, on February 19, 2023, while the singer was touring the United Kingdom.
According to prosecutors, the confrontation involved a man who was allegedly struck with a bottle before being pursued and assaulted. Another defendant linked to the incident also pleaded guilty to affray and is expected to be sentenced alongside Brown.

Brown, who was granted bail of £5 million ($6.7 million), is due to be sentenced on October 26.
The singer was arrested in Manchester in May 2025 shortly after arriving in the UK aboard a private jet. He remained in custody for several days before being released on bail.
Although the criminal case was still before the court, Judge Tony Baumgartner allowed Brown to proceed with his scheduled European tour, which commenced in Amsterdam in June.
Chris Brown rose to global prominence with hit songs including Run It! and has remained one of the most successful R&B performers of his generation, despite a career marked by repeated legal troubles.
