Hoodlums have burnt the palace of the traditional ruler of Isseke community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Emmanuel Nnabuife.
The traditional ruler, who resides in Awka because of the security situation in his domain, confirmed the arson to journalists and lamented that the entire palace was burnt down by the unidentified hoodlums.
In a telephone conversation, he lamented that prior to the attack, he had no problem with anyone in his community to warrant such attack on him.
“It is true that my palace was burnt down by these boys and I have lost everything that I laboured all my life to achieve and as it is now, I am homeless. Everything was razed down, but I thank God that no life was lost and nobody was harmed by those boys, and this is the way it is in my town Isseke,” he said.
Isseke is a border community with Orlu part of Imo State, which has been known to be the hotbed of criminal gunmen for some time now. Most traditional rulers of the communities in the local government area live outside their domains because of insecurity.
The attack came barely one week after a former driver to late former governor, Chinweoke Mbadinuju was allegedly kidnapped by gunmen after performing the funeral ceremony of his late brother at the same Isseke community.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye, has confirmed the incident. He said the situation in the area has been brought under control, and personnel of the command have been sent on the trail of the attackers. He said investigations were ongoing even as he attributed the attack to the activities of fleeing gunmen from the area, following operations by the Joint Task Force on security.
