From: Rose Ejembi, Makurdi Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Thursday, witnessed heavy rainfall which left many areas flooded and disrupting commercial activities in the metropolis. The heavy downpour which started at about 7:00a.m and lasted for several hours ravaged many communities in the metropolis including Agber, Agboughul community, Kighigh area along Naka Road, Ankpa Ward by Demekpe, as well as settlements behind Customary Court of Appeal, opposite First Gate, Benue State University and SRS junction along Federal University of Agriculture Road. Other areas affected are the popular Wurukum Market, Logo 1, Akpehe village; Idye village opposite Police B Division and Kanshio village along Otukpo Road Makurdi. The down pour also affected free flow of traffic within the metropolis with many schools including the Shepherd Heritage Academic and Assemblies of God Secondary School, located at Jerome Hwande Street, Ankpa Quarters Extension Makurdi as well as the Triumph Secondary School, behind Modern Market seriously flooded. A resident of Agboughul Community, Mr. Sunday Inalegwu, who spoke with our correspondent said although he had on Wednesday seen the weather forecast about an impending heavy downpour in Makurdi on Thursday, he least expected it would be this devastating. “I didn’t expect it would be this bad when I saw the weather forecast yesterday (Wednesday). Now, I can’t even drive out of my street. Everywhere is flooded,” he said. |
