The eighth phase of Senator Ede Dafinone’s Medical Outreach successfully concluded on Saturday at Ewu Primary Health Centre, Ughelli South LGA, delivering essential healthcare to over 2,000 residents across the eight Local Government Areas of Delta Central Senatorial District.

Conducted in partnership with the National Health Fellows of Delta Central, the initiative focused on preventive healthcare measures, early diagnosis, and treatment of chronic diseases to enhance the well-being of the communities.

Dafinone, represented at the event by his Senate Liaison Officer, John Ebireri, reiterated his dedication to improving health services for his constituents. “Our goal is to ensure that no one in Delta Central is left behind when it comes to access to quality healthcare,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to Chairman of Ughelli South LGA, Lucky Avweromre, and Executive Secretary of the Local Government Health Authority, Eravwoke Onomine, for their collaborative efforts. “Their support has been invaluable in turning this vision into reality,” he added.

During the outreach, 230 individuals received diabetes screening, blood pressure monitoring, free medical consultations, and medications. In partnership with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), 104 people were supplied with free reading glasses, while over 100 residents were screened for tuberculosis and given free treatment courtesy of the Okiero Anthony Okoro Development Foundation (OAODF).

Executive Secretary of the Ughelli North Local Government Health Authority, Ighovo Tega, praised the initiative, describing it as “a life-saving intervention that bridges healthcare gaps in rural and semi-urban communities.”

The outreach’s success also owes much to contributors such as the World Health Organization, Madden Healthcare Foundation, and the Local Government Health Authorities. Dafinone acknowledged this shared commitment, stating, “Together, we are forging healthier, well-informed communities.”

A similar outreach the previous day in Ughelli South LGA recorded 112 beneficiaries receiving reading glasses, 61 cases of hypertension, and 13 new diabetes diagnoses attended to, further underscoring the programme’s impact.
