You can call it a deluge of blessings. In one fell swoop, Ngozi Uzodike, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State was delivered of seven babies at Obijackson Women and Children Hospital, Okija in Ihiala local government area of the state over a week ago but one reportedly did not make it.
Overwhelmed by the unusual number of bundles of joy welcomed into the family, her husband, Mr Celestine Uzodike, a native of Omogho community in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has appealed to good spirited Nigerians to offer financial support to enable him offset the hospital bill of his wife.
The family, according to Celestine, was billed N19 million, being the cost of the medical services and others in the hospital.
He said that the bill was high and that he could not afford it, especially considering that the wife had not been paid her salaries for the past two years.
Celestine, said to be an aide to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, told Daily Sun that his family was yet to receive any form of assistance from the government and UNIZIK management.
“We are still in the hospital. The babies are still receiving care in the hospital. Nigerians on their own, on individual basis, are reaching out. But the governments – federal, state and local government have not done anything. But Nigerians are awesome,” he said.
Asked how much of that bill has been paid, he said: “We paid around N8 million.
“We are talking about newborn babies in the intensive care unit. After we are done here, we still have a long way to go. But so far, we are still in the hospital and treatment is still ongoing.”
Asked the state of his wife, he said: “She is getting better; she is recovering.
“We have not received any support from the university management but some members of staff of the university are reaching out to us on their own.”
Celestine, who said that he is “a junior aide in the governor’s Budget and Research Office,” disclosed that he had not received any support from the government and UNIZIK.
“We have not received anything. Although the commissioner for women affairs called on the phone and said that they are working on something but we have not seen it. She has been calling anyway,” he said.
Ngozi could not speak to Daily Sun as of the time of filing this report as she was resting.
The family provided account details through which good spirited individuals and organisations could extend financial support to them: Account number: 3375456015; FCMB; Account Name: Uzodike Celestine Nkem.
