Gunmen have shot dead a Point of Sale (POS) operator at the Mgbala Agwa community in Oguta council area of Imo State.

It was reliably gathered that the victim, who was identified as Stanley Chinonso Ojinaka, was killed on Monday morning while attending to customers at his POS shop.

A source from the village said the victim’s death may not be unconnected with an encounter he had with some notorious youths of the community. The source further disclosed that the deceased POS operator, an indigene of  Umuesigbala in Agwa community, had been operating at the shop for many years.

“Those who killed him intentionally did so because they would have demanded money if they were actually armed robbers. I heard that some group of boys came to his shop and shot him dead. What he did to them is what I don’t know, but I recently heard that he was severely harassed and intimidated by bad boys in the area,” the source said.

However, Coordinator, Oguta South Development Centre, Jumbo Obinna, who condemned the ugly incident in its entirety, regretted the systematic return of insecurity in the locality. He promised that government and the police will wade into the matter, to unravel the killers of the POS operator, calling on the youths to remain calm and desist from taking laws into their own hands.

The Imo State Police Command’s Spokesman, Henry Okoye, when contacted, said the information was yet to reach the command.
