Gunmen have kidnapped the aged step-mother of Alhaji Salisu Ibrahim, a member of the Kano State House of Assembly representing Doguwa Constituency.

Ibrahim, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Kano on Monday, said the hoodlums abducted the woman on Sunday in Ririwai town, near the notorious Falgore forest.

The forest serves as den for cattle rustlers and other criminals.

“My step mother, Hajiya Hafsat Abubakar, was in her room when they invaded the house,” Ibrahim said, adding that the abductors had sincedemanded for N50 million ransom from the family.

When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Katsina, confirmed the incident and disclosed that four suspects had been arrested.

Katsina said: “We have arrested four persons in connection with the issue and they are helping our investigation.

“Their intention was to kidnap the member.”

Katsina said the command’s anti-kidnapping squad was already combing the Falgore forest to rescue the elderly woman.

The police boss claimed that the kidnappers were Fulani men engaged in cattle rustling.
