Gunmen at the early hours of Monday attacked the Correctional Service Farm Settlement at Umualomoke in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
Also the hoodlums who the police have alleged are members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its Eastern Security Network (ESN) affiliate, during the melee killed a police inspector ,abducted the officer in charge of the place and set free seven inmates from the centre.
Spokesperson of the State police command, Henry Okoye who disclosed this to newsmen in a statement he released to newsmen has vowed that the State Commissioner of Police,Aboki Danjuma in synergy with other security agencies has vowed to leave no stone unturned in apprehending those behind the incident after visiting the scene of crime.
Meanwhile, Okoye also revealed that a former lawmaker, senator Patrick Ndubeze was also affected in the attack same day in the same area.
His statement read in parts “The Commissioner of Police Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma has deployed the Command’s Special Tactical Squad and equipped them with the available resources to go all out in synergy with the Military other sister security agencies and hunt down suspected IPOB/ESN disgruntled elements, allegedly responsible for the attacks on Correctional Service Farm Settlements, Umualomoke and the residence of Distinguished Senator Patrick Ndubeze, both in Okigwe, in the early hours of 12/02/2024, which resulted in the release of seven (7) inmates, and abduction of the officer in charge of the farm settlement, and the death of a Police Inspector respectively.
“The Commissioner of Police reaffirms the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that the State is adequately protected. He vowed that the hoodlums responsible for the attacks would be arrested and brought to book”. Okoye stated.
