Gunman identified after White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting

Suspect identified after White House Correspondent’s Dinner shooting

The gunman involved in the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has been identified.

CNN reports that sources identified the man as Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old from California.

According to the interim chief of police for Washington, DC, Jeffery Carroll, Cole appears to be the lone gunman, and was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives.

“He was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and multiple knives. As he ran through that checkpoint, members of law enforcement from the United States Secret Service intercepted that individual,” Carroll said.

Speaking further, Carroll added that there was an exchange of gunfire between Cole and law enforcement.

US Attorney Jeanine Pirro disclosed that Cole will be charged with using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.

The arraignment has been scheduled for Monday, April 27.

After he was apprehended, Cole was reportedly taken to the hospital for evaluation. He was not struck by gunfire, as revealed by the interim chief of police.

United States President Donald Trump announced that the White House Correspondents’ Dinner will be rescheduled for another time within the next 30 days, adding that it will be “bigger and better.”
