The Green Assembly Initiative has condemned the campaign of calumny against the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr. Dennis Otuaro, by those it described as blackmailers and anarchists in the region, who concoct unsubstantiated stories against leaders from the region.
The group urged President Bola Tinubu to ignore calls for Otuaro’s removal on the grounds that his leadership has revitalised the intervention programme, bringing impactful reforms and development to the Niger Delta region.
Chairman of the group, Alamboye Duke, in a press conference in Abuja, disclosed that under the leadership of Otuaro, “there has been significant progress in skill acquisition, entrepreneurship development, and scholarship opportunities for ex-agitators and youths in the region.
“His commitment to fostering peace and stability is evident in his strategic efforts to enhance re-integration programmes and ensure transparency and core values in the amnesty programme operations.
“Dr. Otuaro has successfully streamlined the PAP’s budget, redirecting resources toward impactful initiatives that empower beneficiaries and reduce dependency on stipends. His emphasis on education and vocational training has equipped numerous youths with skills, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the economy.”
While dismissing calls for his removal as baseless, selfish and divisive, the group urged Otuaro to remain focused on his reforms and to ignore distractions aimed at derailing his progressive agenda.
The group expressed their full support for his leadership, saying, “The Green Assembly Initiative and other youth organisations stand firmly behind Dr. Otuaro and his team. We encourage him to stay true to his vision, avoiding distractions from those who do not wish him and the Amnesty programme well. His success is pivotal to the region’s peace and prosperity, as well as the advancement of Nigeria as a whole.”
The group equally thanked Tantita, other organisations and individuals for the overwhelming support, while calling on all stakeholders, and well-meaning Nigerians to support Otuaro in his mission to deliver a transformed Niger Delta, through sustainable development and peace.
The president, Yoruba Council Worldwide, Aare Oladofun Hassan, described him as a top-notch administrator of repute and technocrat with the know-how to take the agency back from those who see it as their money spinners rather human development and empowerment agency meant to right the wrongs against the people of the Nigeria and address its human capital deficit.
He said the PAP administrator was reforming the intervention agency to achieve its lofty goals as designed by its founding father before the corrupt elements among the stakeholders and the last managers of the programme turned it into a cash cow.
