The Nasarawa United Forum (NUF) has described as reprehensible the alleged penchant of Senator Aliyu Wadada to use public platforms to malign fellow contestants in the Nasarawa State governorship race.

In a statement yesterday by the group’s coordinator, Abdulaziz Abba, the NUF condemned what it termed unprovoked insults directed at the former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu. The group was reacting to comments made by Wadada during a television appearance on Wednesday.

“We would not have bandied words with Senator Wadada, but to remain mute in the face of his unprovoked harangue against a fellow contestant is a disservice to the people of Nasarawa State,” the statement read.

The group took particular issue with the Senator’s admission of “playing politics” during the broadcast, arguing that the security of the state is too sensitive a topic for political gamesmanship.

“Must you play politics with something as serious as the safety of lives and property? Security matters should not be treated with kid gloves as Senator Wadada attempted to do on national television,” Abba stated.

The NUF further argued that the Senator appears out of touch with the economic impact of insecurity. The group noted that any security breach, however minor, undermines investment opportunities and disrupts the daily lives of those in the informal sector.

“Nasarawa State has become a hotbed of crime, with threats of banditry and civil unrest. This should concern everyone, especially given our proximity to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. For a state eyeing global investment, safety is non-negotiable.”

The forum warned that any candidate who treats the state’s security as child’s play is unfit for leadership.

“The security of our people is sacred. Senator Wadada should stop playing politics with our safety; the people of Nasarawa deserve better,” the statement said.
